Members of IfE’s International Batwa Support Committee (IBSC) met in mid-March to develop plans for an international campaign to demand an end to the massacres and other atrocities against the Batwa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and adjacent countries.
Reports documenting atrocities and rights violations in two countries will be taken to the United Nations in April. IBSC committee members from outside the African Great Lakes region are supporting regional Batwa rights activists through developing research reports, media contacts, and talking points to take to international agencies. Members of IfE’s regional network of Batwa rights activists, Reseau Initiative for Equality (RIFE), have appointed two liaisons with the IBSC.
