Eight organizations in Honduras have come together to form a national committee of Field Hearings partners to address social exclusion of Afro-Latin communities in Honduras. About 2% of the population of Honduras is Black. The various organizations joining forces to confront this issue include groups focused on development, small businesses, women’s issues, and Afro-American issues. Field Hearings will be conducted in communities throughout the country to take input on the problems these communities experience, their assessment of the causes and impacts, how inequality works in their community, and their top priorities for action.
Coordinator of the effort, Roy Guevara Arzu of AFROAMERICAXXI, is also reaching out to surrounding countries to identify additional Field Hearings partners in other Central American countries.
